During the 6th Meeting of the 15th National Assembly dated 01 November 2023, Dr. Vu Tien Loc – Deputy cum Member of the Economic Committee of the Vietnam National Assembly, Chairman and President of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) – engaged in a discussion with the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh. On the morning of 16 November 2023, Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), cohosted the “Launching Seminar of Review report on Public-private partnership (PPP) model contracts & Report on mobilizing new financing to infrastructure projects in Vietnam”. The launching seminar is a part the “Technical assistance for capacity and resilience enhancement and sustainable development” implemented by VIAC and VCCI with the technical assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The two reports presented at the launching seminar today were conducted based on reviewing current PPP legal practices, incorporating feedback, recommendations, and contributions from the private business community as well as appropriately absorbing international experiences. Professionals and distinguished guests in the launching seminar complimented that the report provides valuable guidance for investors and relevant authorities in the implementation of PPP projects; and also serves as a reference for government agencies when undertaking future PPP projects. On 27 November 2023, Hanoi Law University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law entered the Final match of the VMoot 2023. It marked the 7th VMoot – a national-level competition – that has been held, equivalent to the long-term academic sponsorship provided by the Vietnam International Centre (VIAC) to the competition.
VMoot has consistently provided an annual and encouraging academic platform for law students to step into the role of advocates, representing parties at arbitral tribunal to protect the rights and legitimate interests of parties. VIAC hopes that VMoot will continuously firm its position as a leading moot competition and resiliently develop to be a reputable “legal arena”, thereby nurturing the dream of Vietnamese lawyer-to-be in the future. In November 2023, Vietnam Institute for Arbitration Research and Training (VIART) – a division of Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) – in collaboration with the Vietnam Business Lawyers Club (VBLC) and Foreign Trade University (Hanoi), co-organised Foundation Training course on Skills for Dispute Resolution through Arbitration. The 03-day Training had the participation of experienced arbitrators and arbitration professionals as trainers, and more than 20 trainees who are lawyers, law practitioners, lecturers, and students.
VIAC and VIART hope that learners have had good experiences, updated knowledge, and skills about arbitration, efficiently serving the research and career development activities of learners. VIAC and VIART will continue to develop and further improve training programs, thereby improving the quality of training, and contributing to the development of arbitration in Vietnam. [Read more]
On 1st December 2023, Mr. Phan Trong Dat, Acting Director of the Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC) – a division of Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) – gave a speech at the Conference on The Development of E-Commerce in Vietnam – Sustainable Development of E-Commerce. The conference is held in Hanoi by the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency – the Ministry of Industry and Trade – and the Vietnam Economic News.
Mr. Phan Trong Dat had shared multiple topics concerning consumers’ rights and businesses’ rights in e-commerce; as well as advantages of mediation as a dispute resolution, and in the context of development of e-commerce and technology, the dispute settlement methods varies from negotiation to other method involving third party - mediation, arbitration and court litigation.
