Overview of the working session between VIAC and the Ministry of Justice
On the morning of November 14th, 2024, at the proposal of the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), Dr. Nguyen Hai Ninh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Justice, had a meeting with the VIAC delegates led by Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice. During the meeting, VIAC representatives briefed the Minister on the Center's activities and raised key issues regarding the development of arbitration and mediation in Vietnam.
At the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Hai Ninh highly valued VIAC's contribution to arbitration and ADR in Vietnam, which has helped position the country on the regional and global map. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening the position of commercial arbitration and mediation, expressed confidence that VIAC would remain a pioneer in actively contributing to this field. The Minister also acknowledged the need to speed up the process of amending the Law on Commercial Arbitration and completing the legal framework for Arbitration and ADR methods, with the goal of removing existing obstacles and facilitating future developments.[SEE MORE]

The basic training course about Dispute resolution skills through commercial mediation
In order to provide lawyers and businesses with comprehensive and systematic information about commercial mediation along with domestic and international practices in this field, the Vietnam Mediation Center (VMC), a division of the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), organizes a basic training course in 2024 with the topic: Dispute resolution skills through commercial mediation. VIAC PRESIDENT MET AND WORKED WITH THE HANOI BAR ASSOCIATION AND DELEGATION FROM SHENZHEN COURT OF INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION (SCIA)
VIAC met and worked with the Hanoi Bar Association and the delegation from the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA)
On the morning of October 13th, 2024, the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) met and worked with delegates from the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA). The meeting focused on discussing cooperation opportunities between VIAC and SCIA in promoting the development of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods in Vietnam, China, and extending to the wider region.[SEE MORE]
On the afternoon of October 23rd, 2024, the delegation from the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), led by Prof.Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC, visited and worked at the Hanoi Bar Association's headquarters. During the meeting, representatives from both sides shared their organizational activities and discussing potential areas of cooperation to be implemented in the near future, aligning with the characteristics, functions, and goals of each organization. 2024 Lawyer Connection Forum: Lawyer Skills in Controlling the Dispute Resolution Process in Arbitration and
the Current Foreign Trade Transactions Seminar: Shifting Directions in Business Strategy and Dispute Management.
On the afternoon of July 4th, 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in collaboration with the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) organized the Seminar "Current Foreign Trade Transactions: Shifting Directions in Business Strategy & Dispute Management." The event was successfully held with the participation of nearly 200 delegates from import-export businesses, as well as many representatives from associations and business groups in Ho Chi Minh City.[SEE MORE]
On July 13th, 2024, the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, along with the Bar Associations of Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Can Tho, organized the 2024 Lawyer Connection Forum. The event had the participation of over 150 lawyers in Ho Chi Minh City and more than 400 delegates attending online. During the event, VIAC and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law signed a cooperation memorandum with the Bar Associations of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and Can Tho to promote this meaningful activity and collaborate on various others in the future. ASSOC. PROF. DR, ARBITRATOR NGUYEN BA BINH BECAME VICE RECTOR OF HANOI LAW UNIVERSITY FOR 2024-2029 TERM
The announcement ceremony of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Binh as the Vice Rector of Hanoi Law University
On October 10, 2024, the Hanoi Law University (HLU) appointed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Binh, Head of the International Trade Law Department as the new Vice Rector for the 2024-2029 term. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Binh acknowledged new and complex challenges ahead, especially in the context of university autonomy and digital transformation. The new Vice Rector understood the importance of the policies and guidelines of the Party, the laws of the State, and the university’s regulations. He emphasized the need for unity and cooperation within HLU’s leaders, divisions and staff to contribute to the university’s sustainable development responsibly and creatively. This includes the tasks outlined in Decision No. 1156/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister establishing the Overall Scheme on further building Hanoi Law University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law into key universities in training law officers. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Binh also pledged to stay approachable and listen to the concerns of the staff and students, ensuring all feedbacks are properly received and addressing issues promptly and responsibly. ASSOC. PROF. DR., ARBITRATOR TRAN VAN NAM HAS BEEN AWARDED THE TITLE OF “MERITORIOUS TEACHER”

Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Law, College of Economics and Public Management, National Economics University
On the morning of November 17th, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the Vietnam Education Trade Union held the ceremony to award the titles of People’s Teacher and Meritorious Teacher for the 10th time 16 and to honor outstanding teachers and managers of the year 2024. In 2024, the President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam has granted the title of People’s Teacher to 21 teachers and the title of Meritorious Teacher to 1,167 teachers. Among them, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the National Economics University (now the Faculty of Law, College of Economics and Public Management, National Economics University), Arbitrator at the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), and Mediator at the Vietnam Mediation Center (VMC), was honored with the title of "Meritorious Teacher." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam is a legal expert with 35 years of experience in international business law, intellectual property law, e-commerce law, and dispute resolution. From 2014 to 2024, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the National Economics University. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to teaching, scientific research, and dispute resolution. He has also been actively involved in consulting and has participated as an expert and speaker at scientific forums both domestically and internationally, focusing on business law, international trade, and intellectual property.[SEE MORE]

In order for mediation to bring such superior benefits, it is necessary to have Mediators who are dedicated to the job as well as have extensive qualifications and experience. Therefore, the mediator profession should be more focused and trained to develop a flexible, effective and cost-effective dispute resolution method for the parties as well as ensure the sustainable development of the business sector in the long run. With such prospects, it is hoped that in the future, the mediator profession in particular and mediation in general in Vietnam will have the opportunity to develop strongly and help improve the efficiency of dispute resolution in Vietnam, helping to improve the index of business and investment environment in Vietnam. Compared to other areas, Ho Chi Minh City has a specific mechanism that aligns with the city's scale and development orientation. This can be viewed as an opportunity, but simultaneously poses numerous challenges for the business community, investors, especially amidst the unsettled business operation legal framework, which is constantly evolving and reforming.
Recognizing the necessity to solve the legal issues to business operations and the requirements from businesses for a platform to exchange in-depth information on this matter, Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) cooperates with Investment and Trade Promotion Centre Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC) to hold the annual Investment Legal Support Forum. Through this forum, VIAC and ITPC hope to accompany the investors with their businesses in Vietnam and create a connection between business community and competent authorities, thereby, supporting investment process in HCMC in particular and contributing to the development of Vietnam’s economy in general.
