In June 10, 2026, Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) held a working session with the Vietnam Banks Association (VNBA). The meeting was conducted in a cordial and open atmosphere, focusing on discussions regarding arbitration and mediation mechanisms in the banking and financial sector. The two sides also extended congratulations on VNBA’s recent personnel appointment and reached a consensus on the direction for future collaborative initiatives.

Representing VIAC at the meeting were Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh - President of VIAC; Ms. Tran Bao Ngoc - Director of VIAC’s Promotion and Development Division; and Ms. Nguyen Tuyet Duong - Member of the Members’ Council of the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) and VIAC's Listed Arbitrator. Representing VNBA were Mr. Đao Minh Tu - Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Banks Association and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Director of the Training Centre.
At the outset of the meeting, VIAC extended its sincere congratulations to Mr. Đao Minh Tu, former Permanent Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, on his election as Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Banks Association for the eighth tenure (2026–2031). His appointment is a well-deserved recognition of his longstanding and significant contributions to the development of Vietnam’s banking sector over the years. VIAC expressed its confidence that, under the leadership of the Association’s new executive team, VNBA will continue to strengthen its role as a vital bridge connecting its members, safeguarding the legitimate interests of member banks and credit institutions, and providing practical support to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s banking industry.
Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh - President of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), presented flowers to congratulate Mr. Dao Minh Tu.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh provided an overview of Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC). He emphasized VIAC’s increasingly important role within Vietnam’s legal and business ecosystem, particularly as disputes arising in the financial and banking sectors continue to grow in both number and complexity. Beyond providing arbitration services, VIAC has actively promoted Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a flexible, cost-effective, and time-efficient mechanism that is well suited to the operational characteristics of credit institutions.
The two sides also reviewed the positive outcomes of the training program entitled “Skills for Out-of-Court Dispute Resolution in the Banking and Finance Sector,” which was successfully held in Ho Chi Minh City on 30 May and in Hanoi on 6 June. These programs marked important milestones in the cooperation between VIAC and Vietnam Banks Association (VNBA), contributing to enhanced awareness and practical capacity among banking professionals in applying out-of-court dispute resolution mechanisms. VIAC expressed its desire to continue working closely with VNBA to organize additional seminars and specialized training programs, thereby promoting the wider adoption of ADR across the banking community.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dao Minh Tu highly appreciated VIAC’s role and its substantive contributions to dispute resolution in the financial and banking sector. He noted that, as Vietnam’s banking system faces increasing challenges relating to non-performing loans and complex commercial disputes, expanding the use of arbitration and mediation is both necessary and beneficial. Such mechanisms not only ensure legal effectiveness but also provide practical protection for the legitimate rights and interests of all parties involved. Mr. Đao Minh Tu expressed his hope that VNBA and VIAC would continue to strengthen their partnership by organizing more thematic seminars and ADR training programs for VNBA members in the coming period.
At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed on several key areas of future cooperation. These include continuing to organize thematic seminars and training courses on arbitration and mediation for VNBA members; enhancing communication efforts to raise awareness of ADR within the banking community; and strengthening coordination to establish more comprehensive and practical mechanisms for resolving financial disputes. The meeting concluded in a positive and cooperative atmosphere with the exchange of flowers and commemorative gifts, symbolizing the strong partnership between VIAC and VNBA and their shared commitment to promoting an effective, sustainable, and modern commercial dispute resolution system in Vietnam.
